Ho’ olaule’ a (: a celebration) : Group show celebrating endangered species at Cactus Gallery LA

By | Art, Exhibitions
I'm happy to announce that I've been invited to be a part of Cactus Gallery's newest group show: Ho' olaule'a (:a celebration). This exhibition gives a voice to a wide selection of animals that unfortunately find themselves on the endangered species list.   Join the gallery on May 12 for the opening night of this show, or visit their website for more information on this show and the available pieces in it.       Silence: the story behind this piece Nature’s splendor never ceazes to amaze me, and to think that there are so many species that struggle to survive, is a scary yet very real thing. An event that, I feel, is somewhat muted in the media that surround us. This is especially the case fors ome of the ‘lesser’ known species out there, which is why I chose the following endangered species – species from all around the world....

Periodic Table of Elements – Group show at Arch Enemy Arts

By | Art, Exhibitions
On May 4th a new group show opens at Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia, and I've been fortunate enough to create a brand new piece for this exhibition that focuses on the Periodic Table of Elements. Read their official website's statement on this show for more information below:   "For our May group exhibition, Arch Enemy challenged 19 artists to each create a moment or tell a story using only one of nature’s most basic building blocks. Exploring what’s as valuable as gold, bromine used as a tool of greed and deception, or phosphorus’ ability to bring light into the dark, each artist created a single piece using their own signature style and medium to bring science and creativity together in 19 moments, perfectly designed for this world.(..)" The show features new works of a selection of amazing and inspiring artists, such as Alex Eckman-Lawn, David Seidman, Joe Vollan, Paul Romano...

New show “LIMINAL” opening october 6th at Arch Enemy Arts

By | Art
Liminal I'm proud to announce that my first show, "Liminal: stories of transformation and belonging", opens october 6th 2017 at Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia. Liminal: stories of transformation and belonging  Ever since I was introduced to the anthropological studies on the concept of liminality within rituals and the ceremonial beings that we as human beings are, I’ve been fascinated with these ‘spaces in between’ and what they do to our notion of Self. Funnily enough, I found myself roaming these very spaces when I was asked for this feature. I had just found out I had to move out of my beloved home, while I simultaneously registered my business and tried to develop and establish myself as an artist. Being the homebody that I am, moving without having a new place to move to was a big deal. However, it was after those long days of figuring out what to...

The Way We Rust II @ Arch Enemy Arts, opening February 3rd 2017

By | Art, Event, Exhibitions
I am very honored to have been included in the upcoming group show "The Way We Rust II" at Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia. Together with Veks van Hillik's solo show "ESPRIT TROUBLE // BLURRED MIND", this group show will open its doors on February 3rd, and it features new work from  Jason Blake, Sean Xenos, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Tracy Lewis, Kelly McKernan, Allison Sommers, Jason Hernandez, Heather McLean, Genevive Zacconi, Scott Kirschner & Caitlin McCormack and yours truly. The show's pieces are inspired by some of our favorite lyrics. For me, personally, this is a big theme, and I took this opportunity as a chance to get inspired by my all-time favorite band; The Dillinger Escape Plan. Not only have they pushed me to get out of my comfort-zone and pursue the things I truly love, but they were actually the band through which I got to know the gallery. Funny how things...

To see them live on now as part of a t-shirt and silkscreen poster is absolutely incredible. Please check out the available merchandise via iTunes or Giraffe Tongue Orchestra’s official store . AltPress.com was kind enough to feature the above in a new article that can be found…

Smile for the camera!

By | Art
Hey everybody! Over the past couple of months I've been given the opportunity to work on a lot of commissioned pieces, and in particular: portraits! It's so much fun to work on these personal stories and to share my creative interpretation of people their loved ones. I've been working on some pieces that I absolutely can't wait to show you! But before I do so, I want to thank everyone who has had enough faith in me to create a custom portrait for them. And for everyone that's thinking about getting a personalised piece of art, don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love to hear your story! //Dewi
